She may have left her goat leotard at home, but Simone Biles’ skills made the trip to Kansas City. Biles landed a triple twisting double somersault in the floor routine on her way to a sixth national all-around title yesterday – tying Clara Schroth Lomady from the AAU era in the 1940s and 50s.
But she also took the title by 4.95 points over Sunisa Lee. Unlike last year when Biles won all five events, she “only” took four gold medals this week. Thing is? It was already a big weekend for Biles.
On Friday, the Team USA gymnast entered the history books – again – by performing a double double dismount off the balance beam, the first person in history ever to do so.
She ended her routine and dismounted with two flips and two twists during the 2019 U.S. Gymnastics Championships in Kansas City. Up next for the 22-year-old? The World Gymnastic Championships in Germany.
Don’t forget that Biles had already made history back in the World Gymnastics Championships in 2018 by becoming the first American to earn a medal in every event
