JoJo Siwa dropped a circus-themed music video and is now facing backlash due to the clip featuring a 12-year-old dancer Lilliana Ketchman wearing brown make-up as part of a monkey costume.
She’s since turned off the comments underneath the video and shared a lengthy explanation of why on Twitter.
In it, she rejects accusations of blackface and says the video was simply children wearing costumes and that it’s “awful that anyone’s minds would even go there."
She also says that she shut down the comments because people were sending her "disgusting" messages.
