A Reddit user says they’re lucky to be alive today and they’re crediting their survival in a car crash to their Apple Watch. In a post to the iPhone subreddit, u/Unroll9752 says they were driving on a rural highway in rainy conditions when they lost control of their car, crashing it into the median barrier.
The redditor says they lost consciousness in the crash and there was no one around to contact the police, but fortunately, their Apple Watch’s crash detection feature sent a message to their emergency contact and alerted the authorities. "The Watch called 911, gave them my location and sent SOS messages to my parents," he explains.
Because of the crash detection alert, police were dispatched to the crash site. The redditor claims that had it not been for his Apple Watch no one would have known he was in danger, saying “The officer also told me that no one has called to report the crash so basically only the Apple Watch did.” Unroll9752 didn’t buy the Apple Watch because of crash detection, but he’s glad he had it, saying, “Never thought I would ever need that feature but yeah here I am.”
