Way back in 1978, middle school science teacher Patrick Moriarty made a promise to his students.
He told them that he would hold a gathering in 2024 where they could all watch the total solar eclipse together and would place an ad in the paper announcing it to them.
Years later, Moriarty proved to be a man of his word. He started planning two years ago by creating an event page on Facebook, he reached out to former students and encouraged them to spread the word.
Dozens of former students RSVP’d, and Moriarty ponied up by purchasing 130 pairs of protective glasses for safe eclipse viewing.
At the time of the celestial event, around 100 of his former students had made the trip, a reunion was held, and it ended up being emotional for everyone on many different levels. Moriarty says that “everyone wants acknowledgment for what they do, and to have that was…meaningful and amazing.”
