In your mind, what would you consider to be “the perfect day”?
Researchers from the University of British Columbia set out to find the answer by studying data from the American Time Use Survey.
Participants were asked how much time they devoted to 100 different activities, including time with family and friends, doomscrolling, exercise, and so on. When the results were tabulated, this is what they found would be part of a “perfect day”…
- Six hours of quality time with the family
- Two hours with friends
- 5 hours socializing (presumably with people other than family or friends)
- Two hours of exercise
- One hour eating and drinking
- A six-hour workday with a 15-minute commute is ideal
- One hour of screen time
That all adds up to 19-and-a-half hours, which then leaves just four-and-a-half hours for sleep…but who needs that when you’re having the perfect day?
