A Cincinnati Metro driver was recently honored after helping a passenger who was experiencing a stroke. Veteran Metro Access bus driver Latasha Underwood noticed that one of her regular riders was acting differently during a trip to work earlier this month.
She says the passenger, who she picks up every weekday, was usually cheerful but was unusually quiet this day and appeared to be drifting off during the ride. Recognizing that something was wrong, Underwood called for help as soon as they reached their destination and urged responders to act quickly.
Paramedics arrived and transported the woman to a hospital for treatment. Last week, Cincinnati Metro presented Underwood with an award, stating that her actions and attention to her passenger helped give the woman a chance for a full recovery. The driver later learned from one of the woman’s care providers that she’s doing well and continuing to recover.
